The CQ's Creed

By Philip Kyle Boone

7.October.1986

With band on arm and buffer in hand

Stay awake all night... if you can

Answering phones but always be sure

Ya gotta say "This line's unsecure"

Listening for orders in complete devotion

Eating cheese in hopes for another promotion

Start in the morning and it lasts all night

To be a CQ runner is a long and lonely flight

Best of all when the work is done

The CQ runner gets to have his fun

Sleeping all day and playing all night

To be ready the next day fit to fight

NOTE: CQ means "Charge of Quarters". Any one that's been in the Army knows what this is. For those of you that weren't in the Army... Every night in the barracks, there are two soldiers who keep the order. One is in charge (the CQ) the other is his "runner" or the soldier who has to do all the running and cleaning. Another duty of the CQ is answering the phones and calling everyone in, in case of an alert.

Another note: When you're on CQ you have a band on your arm with "CQ" on it. All the floors have to be Buffered (so that they shine in the morning). "Eating cheese" means "brown nosing". And, you are not allowed to sleep the whole night, but at least you get the next day off. You usually get CQ about once a month.
